In the contemporary world of image saturation, social media overload, photographic democracy and computational imagery, the focus of Speculative Horizons’ 1.5 activities is to expand visual literacy among a broad demographic.
This iteration celebrates image-making across three continents with a focus on Japan and introduces an educational program for both photographers, educators and students.
Keynote Lecture and Exhibition Tour
A professional development activity and discussion for arts educators from secondary, tertiary and specialist realms interested in teaching methodologies in photography. The event will be an opportunity to discuss photographic curriculum construction and implementation and facilitate international networking. The lecture will have a specific focus on the importance of visual literacy in education. The presentation of the associated Education Kit, will equip teachers with innovative tools and strategies to establish and integrate photographic teaching into existing teaching approaches in long term curriculum and/or short workshops
Educational Tours I & II
The co-curators will host gallery tours and seminars for teachers and students, giving an insight into the exhibiting artists and wider contemporary photographic practice. The tours will engage students in the analysis and interpretation of photography in relation to the themes of land, people and sea.
